Stormy Antelope Island State Park Elopement in Utah

A couple of months ago, I took a little trip with some sweet photographer friends of mine to Utah. Utah is one of those places that’s been on my bucket list for a very long time. I’ve never seen a state (next to California) that has quite so many diverse & beautiful landscapes. Every time I thought it couldn’t get better, it did. I get so blown away thinking about how I spent most of my childhood & young adulthood wondering what it was like to ride on an airplane. Now, all I can think about is the places my feet have yet to touch.

Our first full night in Utah, we decided on doing a styled elopement at Antelope Island State Park (there was planning long before this, of course). When we got there, it was already very windy & we were being eaten alive by gnats. Within 15 minutes of shooting, we were fighting winds so strong that it was hard to walk in a straight line! I’m talking dark clouds & lightning. Honestly, I think we were all a little nervous that it was going to start raining & we were going to have to leave. We kept moving to different parts of the island to get a little ahead of the weather & keep on shooting. About 30 minutes before we left, we walked over the hillside to see one of the most beautiful sunsets I have ever seen. Believe me, I am not exaggerating when I say that I love sunrises/sunsets and take pictures of them all of the time. This one wins. I don’t even think that pictures can do it true justice. Not to mention the mixing of the storm clouds with those deep oranges & pinks. It was one of those moments where I really felt like God was giving us a front row seat to him painting the skies. Even though this was a styled shoot - the adventure was real & the love was felt. So thankful that this was the way that we got to kick off our Utah trip, that we got to connect with the kindest souls, & that we got to make some pure magic.
