Your Ultimate Guide to Eloping in Alabama
What You Need to Know About Eloping IN ALABAMA
It’s the day you’ve been waiting for. Morning light filters through the trees outside your cabin and the sound of birds is the first thing you hear. You take a slow breath before the day begins. Your dress hangs nearby. The smell of coffee fills the air as you sit down to finish your vows - words that have been sitting in your heart for months. Your photographer arrives and starts documenting the details - your rings, your boots, the bouquet you picked up from the local flower farm the day before. The day moves with an ease - no rush, no hurry - just the quiet joy of knowing what’s coming next. You lace up your hiking shoes, step outside, and the morning air wraps around you. The trail begins with the crunch of gravel and the soft hum of nature. Mist rolls over the hills, and sunlight starts to spill through the canopy above. And there it is. The overlook you’ve been dreaming about. The view stretches for miles - distant ridges and wind moving through the valley. You take out your vows, glance up at each other, and everything else fades away. The world feels still for a moment - just the two of you, the mountains, and a love that feels bigger than words.

how do we get legally married IN ALABAMA?
Alabama is one of the easiest states to get married in!
You are not legally required to have a ceremony, an officiant, or witnesses. You don’t even have to appear at the courthouse, though you will still have to find a notary to sign your form.
You will need to fill out the Alabama marriage certificate online. After completing the form, print it out. Do not sign it yet, as you will need to do that in front of a notary. You can find a notary at a bank, a public library, and some shipping/postal centers. Some notaries are free & some may charge a small fee for their services.
The date that the forms are signed by you and notarized is your legal marriage date, so make sure that is considered when looking for your notary.
Then you are going mail or deliver your form to any probate court in Alabama. Your form must be delivered within 30 days of signing it. If you don’t make the deadline, your marriage is not valid, so make sure it gets taken care of! You can also ask a trusted family member or friend to mail in the forms for you if you are going on your honeymoon.
It is sometimes easier for couples to go to straight to the courthouse with their form, be able to ask questions, sign & have their forms notarized, & filed all - at one time.
There is a small administrative feel for submitting your marriage certificate. Fees will vary depending on the county you submit in.
Once you’re officially married, you can request a copy of your certificate through the Alabama Department of Public Heath online. Certified copies are $15.00. You can order additional copies for $6.00 each.
This certificate is literally the only thing you need to be legally married in Alabama!

Alabama has hot summers & mild winters. Even months that are usually considered cold can be a little warm & humid.

What ACCOMMODATIONS are there for an ALABAMA elopement?
Most of my couples opt to book an Airbnb, cabin, chalet, or boutique inn near the locations they’ve chosen to elope. For those seeking something closer to nature, state parks and forests often offer campgrounds, RV sites, and glamping options.
what should we expect for weather for an alabama elopement?
Alabama weather is famously unpredictable - and part of its charm. You can experience bright, sunny mornings, afternoon showers, and cool evenings all in the same day. Spring and fall tend to bring milder temperatures. Summers are hot and humid. Winters are mild, but occasionally crisp. No matter where you elope in the state, it’s a good idea to be prepared for a little bit of everything. It’s part of what makes eloping here feel truly alive and memorable.
how busy are elopement locations in alabama?
There are more visitors Friday - Sundays & less Monday - Thursday. Most parks are going to see heavier foot traffic on weekends. If privacy & intimacy are something you value for your elopement experience, I would considering booking a weekday elopement!
What should we budget for our alabama elopement?
Elopement costs in Alabama can vary widely. This could be anywhere from 5K-15K depending on how you choose to budget for vendors, attire, accommodations, activities, etc. There’s no one-size-fits-all-buget. What matters is designing a day that feels meaningful to you!
how do we secure permits for our elopement?
You will need to contact the park or facility to obtain documentation & pay your fees. You can do this through the website or by calling. The key is to reach out early, especially for popular spots so that you can reserve your date, know about any guidelines for your stay, and plan your day without any surprises.
Where your love finds its place
No matter where in Alabama your hearts lead you, eloping here is about more than a place. Once the permits are in place and the planning is done, all that’s left is to be present with each other, letting your love unfold naturally in these intimate, breathtaking spaces. Eloping in Alabama is full of possibilities — and having someone who truly knows the light, the landscapes, and the little moments that make a day unforgettable can make all the difference. If you want someone to honor these moments, to capture the way your story feels and looks, I would be honored to help you bring it to life.
