How to Pick an Epic Elopement Location
Q: Why should we choose an "epic" location for our elopement?
A: Before answering this question, I do want to say that "epic" can mean something different for every couple. Epic could be a place that you are familiar with, that has a history, that's special to you. Epic could be a place that you visited once and just knew you'd get married there one day. Epic could be a brand new place that you've never been to that you are excited to explore. Epic doesn't necessarily have to be across the country or across the world, but it can be if that's what you want to do.
Q: Does it really make a difference?
A: Depending on how you look at it, yes & no. Yes, choosing a location with beautiful views does allow for more creative space when photographing your elopement or wedding. That usually means we've got more terrain to work with, better lighting, textures, etc. It can even bring another emotive element to your day. But if your "epic" looks like getting married in your granny's backyard, that doesn't mean that your day is less beautiful or valuable or meaningful that anyone else's. Your location won't stop your love & it won't stop your photographer from capturing it.
I know all of my photographer friends out there can agree that we get super excited about inquiries for adventure elopements and destination weddings. We are visual artists. The possibility of exploring any part of the planet or looking at it in a new light is so exciting to us, but we also know that our clients are the number one priority & that includes what they want their day to look like.
Absolutely talk to your photographer about your potential location so they can help you maximize what you are working with for the best photos, but also hire someone who has your best interest in mind from the get-go.
