Tips for Flay Lays for Photographers

1. Talk to your clients & send them a guide/list with things they can include in their details.

2. Innovate. Not everyone has a lot of details. Look at what’s around you or available to you that can help tell the story.

3. Come prepared. You can purchase items to create your own flat lay kit. Some photographers like to bring a roll-up mat, styling blocks, spools of ribbon, stamps, ring boxes, florals, & other accessories they think might come in handy if they need them.

ALSO, realize that there is a learning curve. I’ve always loved photographing details, but it wasn’t until a few years ago that styling them in a particular fashion became a part of that. The perfectionist in me will over-analyze what I should add or remove, or move around, etc. I make sure to allot enough time for details when I arrive so that I can play around with them.
