How I Retouch Your Photos

Q: So, what kind of “retouching” do you do on our photos?

A: I can honestly only speak from my own techniques & approaches because every photographer does things differently. I want my clients to look in their photos as closely as they do in real life. I edit out things that generally wouldn’t be there in a matter of days. Pimples, blemishes, bruises, & scratches - & to a minimal degree. If I see something that is distracting like a stray hair, bugs, trash, random objects/people - I will sometimes edit those things out. I do try to shoot in areas that are clean & less crowded to avoid unnecessary editing. Scarring, cellulite, wrinkles, skin texture, balding, moles, freckles, birthmarks, & tooth discoloration are all part of our lives & part of us. We are all different sizes, shapes, & colors. That’s what makes your story beautifully unique. Throughout the years, I’ve overhead, “I’m sure she can just edit that out.” Some things can be edited out & some can not. Some things can be edited out with ease & some are more difficult. Retouching photos to that extent can be very time consuming & I’ve even been asked if I’d do it at an extra cost. If you are looking for a photographer that can give you a more curated look, I am not the photographer for you. If you are looking for a photographer that can help you feel more comfortable in front of the camera, be a safe place for you, & that will be your cheerleader - I’m here for you, friend.

XO, Dakota
